James Whistler (July 10, 1834 – July 17, 1903) was an American-born, British-based artist.
He was born in Massachussets, USA and later lived his early childhood in St. Petersburg, Russia. He afterwards lived in Britain, UK.
His art was characterized by a subtle delicacy. Finding a parallel between painting and music, Whistler titled many of his paintings "arrangements", "harmonies", and "nocturnes", emphasizing the primacy of tonal harmony.
Here I have digitally painted my own original paintings using the style of Whistler, and also a painting of Whistler's most painting, Arrangement in Grey and Black No.1 (1871), held in the Musée d'Orsay in Paris.
It has been variously described as an American icon and a Victorian Mona Lisa.
Here are the list of accolades during his life that he achieved:
Awards 1884, elected honorary member, Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Munich, Bavaria, Germany;
1892, made an officer of the Légion d'honneur, France;
1898, charter member and first president of the International Society of Sculptors, Painters, & Gravers.
Summarizing the above, most of the paintings here are my own original digital paintings illustrating the unique painting style of the US artist James Whistler.
